Q. Some other companies already charge for a similar membership. Is Nikon going to start charging for my NPS membership?
A. NPS membership has, since its official inception in the early 1970's, been a service oriented aspect of professional use of Nikon gear by a registered pro shooter. Although it is impossible to say things will never change Nikon has made a decision to currently continue to offer NPS membership to requirement-qualified photographers for FREE, as it has for over four decades! Any future alteration in the NPS membership structure would be decided only if such a change allowed Nikon to better serve their customers.
Q. I've been a loyal NPS member for years. Things seem to work fine, so why make any changes?
A. NPS is now a global organization, and, as such, can offer special services no matter where you might have to shoot. NPS requirements in the US must be in compliance with Nikon's Global service.
Q. How often do I need to renew my NPS membership?
A. The current NPS Renewal period is every three years.
Equipment Registration:
Q. Why must I register my Nikon Equipment on the NPS Renewal?
Why are you having me list my equipment to qualify? I am already a member.
A. NPS priority repair is only available on qualifying registered equipment; additionally the minimal equipment requirement ensures that you have what is considered the basic tools necessary. Keeping your equipment up to date allows us to continue to supply NPS service at no charge.
Q. The serial #s I'm entering on the Registration page are displaying as invalid. What should I do?
A. Serial numbers of older items may not be in our database.
You will have the option for NPS to review your equipment registration further.
- Select 'ADD PRODUCT' twice. Check the box: Serial Number is entered correctly
- Select Add the Product.
- Add additional qualifying equipment to meet the minimum requirement.
- Select Next to complete the application.
Q. How do I list other products not listed on the Automatically Qualifying Equipment List that I use professionally?
A. We do not doubt that you have equipment that you are using for your professional career that is not listed on our application. For NPS membership, you are required to own a total of at least 2 Professional Bodies and 3 Professional NIKKOR or DX NIKKOR lenses.
The products listed under the Automatically Qualifying Equipment List will be eligible for Nikon priority repair service and NPS membership.
You will have the opportunity to add your other Nikon equipment to your application on the Secondary Equipment List (this equipment may not qualify for Nikon priority repair service).
NPS will review the products you list on the Secondary Equipment List in combination with the products listed on the Automatically Qualifying Equipment List for NPS membership.
Please submit the NPS Application with as much data as possible.
Q. Is there a benefit to registering more than 2 Professional Bodies and 3 Professional NIKKOR or DX NIKKOR lenses?
A. Yes. Nikon priority repair service will be offered on registered equipment that is eligible.
Q. I completed my Online Application—how can I register additional Nikon equipment?
A. Once you renew you may update your equipment profile on our website.

Q. Why is an E-Mail Address required?
A. In addition to keeping you informed of any new announcements, your email address will be your User Name for www.nikonpro.com.
Q. Why must I supply a physical mailing address?
A. We would like to have both your home and work addresses. We use UPS for shipping of packages. Since we may have occasion to ship a parcel to you, we cannot accept a PO Box in both the home and the business address areas. At least one of your addresses must be a physical street address.
Q. UPS/FEDEX Account
A. Shipment of NPS consignments via UPS or FEDEX is the responsibility of the NPS member.
There is no rental fee charged for the use of this equipment.
By supplying your UPS or FEDEX account #, you acknowledge that it will be charged for all NPS consignment shipments.
Because of significant improvements in technology, high service levels, and many service options, Nikon is suggesting that UPS be used for all NPS shipments.
Call 1-800-PICK-UPS to open an account or go to the UPS web site at www.ups.com, and follow the online instructions.
We can also use your FEDEX account number if you prefer to use Federal Express.
Q. Why do I need to supply a credit card?
A. One of the privileges of NPS membership is the ability to borrow equipment. Your valid credit card is used to guarantee the return of the loaner gear. Your credit card will not be charged unless you fail to return equipment on time.
Q. Why is a Social Security number required?
A. Most of our contact with NPS members takes place over the phone. We can do this by asking for your Social Security number. Your Social Security number provides us with another measure that can be used to verify identity. This provides both you and Nikon with a little extra security in the event of a lost NPS card. Your number will be kept in locked files and will never be shared or given out to a third party. If you would prefer not provide this information you may substitute your mother's maiden name.
Q. Why must I provide my Date of Birth?
A. Some people consider this a sensitive area. We ask for this information for the following reason. One of our most valuable member services is the loan of equipment to replace your Nikon items that may be delayed in our repair center. In order to contract in your own name we need you to provide your age/birth date, since the legal age varies from state to state.
